Board Racial Diversity UK was formally registered as a charity in November 2024. It is the successor organisation to Action for Trustee Racial Diversity (ATRD), founded in 2019 by Malcolm John.

Our aim, as with ATRD, is to achieve the proportionate representation of individuals from Black and Asian backgrounds on not-for-profit boards (and not only charity boards as ATRD), by helping to recruit an additional 60,000 Black and Asian trustees.

We have developed a package of key resources and services for not-for-profit organisations (for which we have received much positive feedback), including affordable one to one consultancy, our practical “From Here To Diversity” guide, our unique Black and Asian Network Organisations (BANOs) Database, and our unique member network of 300+ current and aspiring Black and Asian trustees, to whom we advertise board vacancies to.
